David Stratton And Margaret Pomeranz To Be Inducted Onto Australian Film Walk Of Fame

Prolific Australian film critics David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz are set to be honoured with stars on the Australian Film Walk of Fame out the front of the Ritz Cinemas Randwick, followed by a live show looking back at their extensive television careers.

Following the ceremony celebrating their contributions to Australian film culture, a one-hour live show titled An Evening with David & Margaret will follow to celebrate the pair’s prestigious careers.

Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton are most well known for being the hosts of The Movie Show on SBS and At the Movies on ABC, where they spent 28 years on air together discussing films to huge weekly audiences.

Stratton and Pomeranz are the first ever duo and first non-actors to be inducted onto the Walk of Fame, instead being recognised for their contribution to Australian film culture rather than the industry.

Pomeranz and Stratton both felt honoured to receive the recognition. “I am thrilled to be given this acknowledgement by Randwick Council,” she said, “particularly with its association to one of this country’s most innovative and pro-active cinemas. It is truly an honour.”

Stratton agreed: “This recognition by the Randwick Council is greatly appreciated. It is gratifying to be connected to the Ritz Cinema, which is one of the finest movie places in Australia.”

Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker also expressed his joy at inducting the pair onto the Walk of Fame. “David and Margaret brought movie-going into our homes every week with passion, insight and humour,” he said.

“They shaped the way we talk about film in this country and have introduced generations of Australians to the magic of cinema. It’s an honour to welcome them to Randwick and celebrate their legacy.”

The proceeding live show, An Evening with David & Margaret, is set to take place indoors at the Ritz Cinemas Randwick.

Promising a revisitation of the highlights, lowlights and surprises of the pair’s illustrious television careers, the live show sold out in just a day after its announcement – proof of the love that Australia still holds for these influential critics.

The Walk of Fame induction and An Evening with David & Margaret is set to take place on Sunday, June 1st.
