DANCE: EVA YERBABUENA

DANCE: EVA YERBABUENA

BY SCOTT WINTER

For those who didn’t get to experience the histrionic flamboyance of Noche Flamenca, you’ll be excited to know that Sydney’s next amazing flamenco infusion arrives in the form of a legendary Seville-based flamenco dancer, Eva Yerbabuena.  With a surname meaning, ‘aromatic rambling herb’  this dramatic show, like the beautiful little flower that covers the north American mountainside, has wildly embellished stages across Europe and America. Eva successfully combines passionate flamenco traditions with contemporary dance sequences, including ballet. She will reprise some of the outstanding flamenco choreography she has created and performed over the years, holding true to the traditional Andalusian style. This explosive artist, who emanates true Sevillana prowess, standing at less than five feet tall, performs mesmerically alongside her husband, Paco Jarano. Paco is himself a leading flamenco guitarist and known for his flirtatious improvisations with jazz through the burning rhythmic melodies of southern Spain. With the accompaniment of three male vocalists, a percussionist and two rhythm guitarists, Eva Yerbabuena will stomp you through the orange groves and deliver the true essence of her homeland and all its hot, sandy, olive coloured provinces.
