CUT SNAKE

CUT SNAKE

After sold-out shows in the 2011 Sydney and Melbourne Fringe Festivals, the Arthur production Cut Snake will grace the Bondi Pavilion this month inside, “the biggest cubby known to man”.

Explaining the less-than-conventional stage, director Paige Rattray says she wanted to break down the traditional theatre space in a play which blends vivid stories traversing youth and the extraordinary.

“It jumps around all over the place. There’s dancing and acrobatics and a bearded lady– there’s lots going on,” she laughs.

“It is moving in moments but we don’t dwell on that … I think that’s kind of what you need to do in life as well.”

Rattray says the stories are inspired from her own life, as well as the lives of the other writers, Amelia Evans and Don Giovannoni. They all grew up in the country and Cut Snake was originally intended for a regional audience. “That’s where we want to take it; on the road!”
