CUT & PASTE #18

CUT & PASTE #18

Sydney’s foremost DIY variety night may be nearing adulthood, but it hasn’t lost any of its youthful charm. Cut & Paste is blowing out 18 candles with a typically motley cast of talented characters, comedians, and half-time snags, and you’re all invited.

“At its heart Cut & Paste is an old school variety night. Bit of music, bit of comedy, bit of theatre, few beers. Job done,” says Phil Spencer, programmer and Associate Artistic Director of the Tamarama Rock Surfers.

With Anne Wilson charading as a showtune-frenzied Texan pastor, Michael Hing unleashing some new gags, John Kay standing up for some sit-down poetry, Tom Campbell’s one hander about being one-handed, and many more, ‘variety’ is probably a bit of an understatement.

Spencer admits the hardest thing is, “Trying to squeeze everyone onto the bill.” He adds, “And trying to teach [co-programmer] Zoe [Norton-Lodge] how to push play on the CD player on cue…she’ll get there.”
