Cars still in pole position at White Bay

BY KYLIE FIELD
It’s beginning to look like the development of White Bay may have stalled, as cars are still being stored at the old cargo facility. According to reports, truckloads of imported cars are making their way from Port Kembla back to White Bay daily.
But according to Marie Festa, spokesperson for Patrick Autocare, the majority of vehicles stored on the White Bay waterfront were imported directly into Sydney, prior to the transfer of the facility to Port Kembla.
‘Patrick Autocare is currently using facilities at Glebe Island/White Bay to store motor vehicles whilst industry inventory levels remain high,’ she said.
A spokesman for the Minister for Ports, Joe Tripodi, said the location is a temporary one that is nonetheless needed to steer the industry through difficult economic times.
‘[The] storage of vehicles at Glebe Island has been brought on by the economic downturn and the fall in demand for new cars.’
