A STEADY RAIN

A STEADY RAIN

“That was awesome,” said a delighted theatregoer after seeing Keith Huff’s A Steady Rain at the TAP Gallery on the opening night. Indeed the audience was a rapt and enthralled witness to a performance that was riveting in its intensity.

Michael Booth (Denny) and Sam O Sullivan (Joey) are a couple of Chicago cops caught in an atmosphere as claustrophobic as the spare space in which they performed. Bound by a code of brotherhood, their friendship shatters over the unlikely figure of a naked Vietnamese boy, and the morally dubious nature of their attitudes to life and love.

The play relies on monologues interspersed with short interactions between the pair. Everything about the production is carefully orchestrated; even the shadows merge and separate to echo the viccissitides of the friendship. A thriller, despite the lack of physical action, A Steady Rain maintains interest until its tragic end.
