A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

Helena loves Demetrius, Demetrius loves Hermia, Hermia loves Lysander. The course of true love never did run smooth … The current version of Shakespeare in the park sees the wistful A Midsummer Night’s Dream come to life at the Belvedere Amphitheatre in Centennial Park every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during November. Directed by Tama Matheson, this production neither lacks magic nor veracity, but technical glitches like one of the speakers being unplugged for the first section of the play were distracting, as well as the fact that it was still difficult to hear lines after the cast took a break so that it could be fixed. But as always the atmosphere of seeing the Bard’s work come to life amid the beauty of nature and under the starry night sky creates a wonderful night of theatre.

Until Nov 25, Belvedere Amphitheatre, Centennial Park, $22-30 (children under 12 free), 1300 GET TIX, moshtix.com.au
