“We’re only a sail in the end / And only a breath to begin with / Only a shell in the end / Only an egg to begin with.” Holly Throsby’s third album, A Loud Call, positively belows from the highest peak, “I have arrived!”, it is simply outstanding. Rich in character, and quickly becoming unique in voice, Ms Throsby excels. A Heart Divided is the most pristine of pop gems, The Time it Takes a perfect piano pop moment. But it is her lyrical voice that is becoming her greatest strength: “The time it takes to make hearts break / Is the same as for a girl to skip a stone ‘ and all it takes is a little shake by a man or a woman or a grave”. And when Holly does push herself beyond her trademark haltingly breathy vocals into a full singing voice, well, these are the moments that one’s heart skips a beat at the possibilities still to come. To have such beauty and to be given a glimpse of further heavenly delights is sublime.
