A CHORUS LINE

A CHORUS LINE

“One singular sensation, every little step she takes,” is the most recognisable line from one of the world’s most iconic musicals. Even if you aren’t a traditional musical theatre fan, the story of 17 dancers fighting for eight spots in one Broadway chorus line is a classic.

While no two characters are the same, they all share the same dream – to get the job. It’s not a starring role or the big leagues, but each one believes the chorus line is the first step to their end goal. Whether that’s becoming a famous actress or simply dancing until they physically can’t do it anymore.

Director and choreographer Baayork Lee, a cast member from the 1975 original, has ensured the simple spirit of the show shines through in dramatic fashion.

Elaborate sets and mechanical hocus-pocus are not needed to tell this tale, only tricks of the light, mirrors and the obvious talent of each dancer on stage. Led by Joshua Horner (Dancing with the Stars) as the no-nonsense director Zach, the rest of the cast is a lesson in the new generation of Australia’s musical theatre stars. The show is driven by the charisma of the company and their ability to enthral the audience in a performance that has no intermission.
