Gig review – MTNS: Feb 14 at Brighton Up Bar

Brighton Up Bar is an intimate live music enclave, which is not to say that it lacks when attracting quality bands. MTNS, Govs and Bexley de Leon is a line-up made in Australian indie heaven. However, neither Govs nor Bexley de Leon were support on the night, which didn’t end up disappointing as stand-ins The Game River gave a tonally beautiful and heartfelt acoustic performance, and five-piece group Left delivered a dynamic and energised set that made the room swell and move.

Brisbane’s MTNS, with their emotionally-charged synth-led chillwave, were worthy headliners. Frontman Tom Eggert has a commanding stage presence, his vocals defying gender at times. MTNS have a masterful use of slow and sexy tempo that makes the audience beg for more. Their two singles Salvage and Lost Track of Time were standout crowd-pleasers, ensuring there was ample love in the room for this February 14th show. (KM)
