Lunar New Year 2025: Where You Can Celebrate The Year of the Snake In Sydney

Lunar New Year is back, and if you’re ready to celebrate the Year of the Snake, Sydney has plenty of exciting events and festivities to mark the occasion. 

The Sydney Lunar Festival kicks off with an unforgettable street party to welcome in the Year of the Snake on Saturday, February 1st, starting at 5:00 PM.

Year of the Snake Visits Haymarket

Visitors can wander through Haymarket, exploring vibrant market stalls offering food, gifts, and more. The event features a captivating mix of traditional and contemporary performances across three different sites, creating a dynamic and engaging atmosphere for all.

The party continues with a live DJ setting the tone with infectious beats, inviting everyone to dance and celebrate. A must-see is the stunning snake family display at Dixon Street Mall, offering a unique visual spectacle that captures the spirit of the festivities.

The food trucks stationed along Little Hay Street, Sussex Street, and Ultimo Road are a foodie’s dream, offering everything from Malaysian street food at Sudu Around to fried chicken from Just Fry and Japanese eats at Little Tokyo.

There will be three performance sites, from lion and dragon dances to vibrant dance performances and live music, the streets will be buzzing with excitement.

One of the highlights of this year’s celebrations is the Snake Family display at Dixon Street Mall.

After the performances, take a leisurely stroll up George Street to admire the 12 zodiac animal lanterns that line the street. Each lantern is a work of art, representing one of the zodiac animals, and provides the perfect photo opportunity to capture the festive spirit.

Date: Celebrations kick off on February 1st, with festivities continuing throughout the week.

Lunar New Year Jetpack Shows at Cockle Bay Wharf 

Head to Cockle Bay Wharf on Saturday, February 1 and February 8 to watch jetpack pilots soar above the water, performing daring aerial stunts. These jaw-dropping performances will add a thrilling modern twist to the traditional Lunar New Year celebrations, providing a unique and unforgettable spectacle. There are three showtimes for both days: 7pm, 7:45pm and 9pm and each performance will last for 20 minutes. 

Burwood Lunar New Year Street Party

On Friday January 31 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Burwood Road will come alive with a vibrant outdoor celebration for the Year of the Snake. 

At 9:00 PM, a dazzling fireworks display will light up the sky, followed by an energetic open-air dance party to keep the celebration going into the night. It’s an event you won’t want to miss!

The celebration continues in Burwood Chinatown from January 31st with exciting cultural performances and giveaways including: the Sugar Painting Giveaway and the Face Changing Performance. 

On Saturday, February 1, 2025, the festivities continue with Chinese Fans Giveaway with handwritten blessings from a calligraphy master, God of Wealth Appearance, Neon Lion Dance, Face Changing Performance and a lantern Giveaway
