Robbie Williams Set To Headline ABC’s NYE Concert

Nineties icon and pop superstar Robbie Williams is ready to rock (DJ) centerstage at Sydney’s New Year’s eve celebrations, headlining ABC’s yearly concert at the Opera House.

“I love and adore Australia, and the Sydney fireworks are truly magical,” Williams says in a statement via ABC TV.

“To ring in the New Year where Better Man was filmed is the perfect end to 2024 and an ideal start to 2025. I can’t wait to perform and celebrate with my incredible Australian fans.”

Fans can expect a NYE set featuring his greatest hits and new song from his Better Man soundtrack which has already received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Song.

Williams’ on upcoming biopic ‘Better Man’

The announcement comes as the once rowdy but nevertheless charming star prepares to release his biopic Better Man, hitting theatres worldwide on Boxing Day.

Partially shot in Melbourne and directed by Aussie filmmaker Michael Gracy (The Greatest Showman), the film tells the story his meteoric rise to fame with a twist– depicting Williams as a CGI monkey.

Reflecting on his upcoming Aussie trip, he adds, “I was gutted I couldn’t be there for the premiere because if there’s anywhere in the world that I want to be at the premiere, it’s Australia.”

Robbie Williams’ long love affair with Australia

Williams’ connection to Australia has grown over the years, from a lukewarm reception to a deep bond with his fanbase down under. His third album ‘Swing When You’re Winning’ following frequent tours, visits and headline appearances won hearts across the nation.

Most recently, he dazzled audiences with a smashing pre-match performance at the 2022 AFL grand final and sold-out stadium shows for his 25th anniversary tour.

Williams’ hopes to back in February for 2025 AACTA Awards

Looking ahead, Williams hopes to return to Australia in February for the 2025 AACTA awards. Better Man has received nominations in six categories including Best Film, Best Director and Best Lead Actor for Jonno Davies.

“I f***ing hope so,” Williams quipped when asked about his attendance, while gesturing a thumbs-up from his manager.

Pop megastar Robbie Williams will perform alongside Aussie favs Casey Donovan, G Flip, Becca Hatch, Nooky and more.

The NYE 2024 Concert will stream at 8:30pm on 31 December on ABC TV and iView.
