Missing – REVIEW

For moviegoers who wish to experience something quite unique in cinemas, Missing is a movie which should fulfill all expectations.
The story centres on June, a 17 year old girl whose mother Grace goes missing while vacationing in Columbia with her boyfriend. June searches for her mother virally, seemingly never leaving her computer.
But all is not as it seems in this rather suspenseful mystery thriller which should keep amateur armchair detectives guessing right until the very last moment.
Why does Grace have so many different identities and is she dating a felon? More importantly why are the law enforcers investigating Grace’s past and is she actually a criminal mastermind?
The more attention this case receives the more theories people post online as to what they believe happened, leading to an abundance of misinformation which hinders the investigation.
Promising young actress Storm Reid plays the lead as 17 year old June, competently supported by Nia Long in a lesser role as her mother Grace.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable ‘laptop’ movie which utilizes most apps in computing, including facetime and Instagram. The cinema screen is basically the computer screen June is peering into, as she slowly resolves her mother’s disappearance.
This movie should be great entertainment for the majority of the younger generation of viewers who enjoy technology, mobile phones, and anything else to do with computing.
However, those people who are bored of working on computers all day long may find this movie quite tedious to watch. Those who aren’t computer literate especially may be left behind, as the online computer usage and jargon speeds up in the final act.
