Something for the diehards – Fangirls

Yve Blake’s Fangirls is going to the Opera House for a season after collecting awards the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Production of a Musical, Matilda Award for Best Musical or Cabaret, and the 2020 AWGIE Award for Music Theatre.
Written by Yve Blake and directed by Paige Rattray, the musical has taken the teenage girl world by storm.
Advertising for the show offers a definition of a “Fangirl”:
“Fangirl (noun): a human joy bomb. Loud, proud and totally unashamed, the Fangirl generates an endless supply of history’s most underestimated power source: pure, unadulterated enthusiasm.”
And indeed, the energy of the dancers and the fabulous choreography lift the musical out of the ordinary into a youthful celebration of life.
Blake called this work a “thriller comedy musical”. Go, figure!
