WINTER WARMERS

WINTER WARMERS

Chromotherapy, or colorogy, is the study of colour and light and their affects on the human body, energy levels, and emotional state. While its recorded history dates back to the first century and the work of Persian polymath Avicenna, it has enjoyed many permutations throughout popular culture, arts and advertising  since then (the red and yellow siren call of the Macdonald’s logo, anyone?), as well as Chinese medicine, physiology studies and more. Believe or disbelieve, it’s hard to deny that colour is essential to perception, and by extension, feeling. The Winter Warmers exhibition at the Kate Owen gallery explores the vibrant hues of Indigenous artists Barbara Weir (daughter of the late famous Aboriginal artist Minnie Pwerle), Evelyn Pultara, and Papunya Tula artist George ‘Hairbrush’ Tjungurrayi (Wynne prize finalist). Desert flowers bloom alongside depictions of yam corroborees and more. Go see the full spectrum for yourself, until August 14. (AB)

Until Aug 14, Kate Owen Gallery, 680 Darling St, Rozelle, 9555 5283, kateowengallery.com
