Pacific Runway is back for 2022 after being put on hold due to covid. The annual event originated in 2012 by Jannike Seiluli showcases the expertise of Māori and Pacific creatives. Pacific Runway is scheduled to take place on the 27th of October 2022 at the Powerhouse Museum. It combines a celebration of Pacific Islander creatives including workshops, cultural talk sessions, hair and beauty demonstrations, authors, live music, and Pacific Runway’s famous fashion show.

Pacific Runway supports the Māori and Pacific Islander culture by the inclusion of Islander models, designers, stylists, event managers, photographers etc.

Ensuring the celebration of diverse communities in New South Wales, specifically Sydney.

Denver White, a Polynesian woman, has the exciting opportunity to participate in this year’s Pacific Runway.

“The pacific runway production allows for the Polynesian culture to be shared. It showcases our heritage and stories about our beliefs as well as cultural traditions in an entertainment manner which can be portrayed and absorbed exactly as presented,” she told City Hub.

“Being a half-caste Polynesian myself, there’s not much representation within these sectors such as fashion. I have always been proud of my heritage and this production allows me to be a representation for my niece and nephew and any of the younger generations to come. Pacific Runway is paving the way on inclusivity and how we can share our culture in the future.”

“Pacific runway gives not only designers of pacific descent a platform to showcase their art, designs, and talent, but it also allows for more inclusivity within the model realm. It showcases the vast difference in appearances of people e.g., facial and body structures to colouring of skin and hair and its diversity across the whole Pacific.”

Pacific Runway acknowledges the sponsorship of the Southwest Multicultural and Community Centre initiative and the NSW Council for Pacific Communities which enables them to support the Māori and Pacific Islands celebration of fashion and exotic talent.
