WHO’S THE BEST?
It’s not quite Survivor – although that does get a mention. Nor is it Big Brother – although there are shades of that fishbowl favouritism too. It’s Who’s the Best? – a rivalry of three friends and the performers from Sydney-based devised theatre collective post. In a series of absurd algorithms, categories and sub-categories, the three – Mish Grigor, Zoe Coombs Marr and Natalie Rose (played here, hilariously, by Eden Falk) – attempt to divine once and for all, WHO WINS LIFE? Finances, personality, looks, special skills and luck all get a look in. As do ticks from tigers, a table-top in Cairns, an oven for baking babies and a thankfully never-realised audience survey. The comedic timing of all three, suited in pastels like creepy 80s mimes, is impeccable. Jewel-hued satin curtains whir behind – and in front – like deranged inanimate coaches. It’s a simple on-stage equation, but one that very appropriately, really excels. You will up your fitness points by doubling over with laughter throughout, and then leave silently calculating the stats of you and everyone you know. Go. Just go.
