WALL·E

WALL·E

A lone waste-collecting robot from a future Earth devoid of human life becomes enamoured with a mysterious robot sent to investigate the planet’s surface, inadvertently following it on an adventure into space. Pixar Animation never cease to impress, this time taking robots and turning them into some of the most relatable and lovable characters I’ve seen all year. Huge portions of the film take place without traditional dialogue, instead relying on the honest simplicity of the robot characters, combined with the constantly stunning and often beautiful animation, to tell a highly imaginative story up there with Pixar’s finest. Also worthy of note is Pixar’s first, yet appropriate, use of live action sequences, and the satirisation of the thinly veiled Walmart-esque corporation dominating Earth’s future. As is their trademark, it’s a G-rated film that’s compelling for children and adults alike. (Michael Farrell)
