Whether or not you’re familiar with the absent-minded inventor Wallace and his loyal, intelligent dog Gromit, this exhibition of their colourful world won’t fail to make you smile.

While the immense attention to detail in the various dioramas and replications of Wallace’s large technological inventions is admirable, it’s the constant interactivity and creative games which set this exhibition apart. Almost like a futuristic children’s playground, viewers can speak with Wallace over the telephone, check out his charmingly messy lawn, walk through his quaintly quirky house and witness many of his often outrageous and unfortunate inventions: a glass hammer, a chocolate kettle, and a hot water bottle made of ice.

The educational theme doesn’t detract from the fun, but still offers an insight into the history of technology, and the types of law and developments in communications and science. Still, the kids may be a bit too busy jumping around the enormous backyard, controlling the life-sized virtual television or taking snapshots in the karaoke disco shower to read about Alexander Graham Bell.

All in all, the warmth of these lovable icons is certainly not lost in this charming replica of their unusual life together.
