The latest production for King Street Theatre has been ripped straight from the headlines as Melvyn Morrow’s play Vice explores accusations of sexual assault in an exclusive North Shore private boys school.

Set in the fictional St. Mark’s College in Sydney’s North Shore Morrow’s play explores a disturbing maze of motivations, workplace politics and personality clashes. Having spent over forty years teaching in schools around the world Morrow certainly has the experience and knowledge to explore some of these complex dynamics associated with school life for both teachers and students.

“My hope and feeling for Vice is that it will divide audiences sympathies” said Morrow, who hopes to blur the boundaries of reality and fiction to create an even more impactful story and show for audiences.

In a show that may be disturbing and difficult for some people to watch given the recent climate of the Royal Commission into Sexual Assault in Institutions, “these tragic events were not the reason for me to do this play but I do feel that the time is right for us to explore these issues” said Morrow. This show is seemingly one that is very much needed to help us as a society better understand this horrific crime and hopefully prevent it from ever occurring again.
