TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA

TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA

Two Gentlemen of Verona, one of Shakespeare’s earliest comedies, is a physical, visual and funny play in the unique style of Zimbabwean street theatre performed by Zimbabwean actors, Denton Chikura and Tonderai Munyevu.

Two Gents brings Shakespeare’s verse to life in a new and entertaining way through the eyes of modern Zimbabweans, blending a fresh cultural perspective with physically engaging and intimate performances.

“Two Gents is about friendship effected by migration, displacement and disruption and how women are treated,” says actor Tonderai Munyebvu.

“I think it also resonates with a lot of people around the world, not just Africans, who have left their home countries and find themselves in between two worlds.”

The two actors play all fifteen characters, from amorous suitors to sullen daughters with minimal props in this two-man version of a play about love, friendship and betrayal.

They will also perform Kupenga Kwa Hamlet (The Madness of Hamlet) in Sydney. (CN)
