TRON LEGACY (3D)

TRON LEGACY (3D)

Full of wonder and overflowing with eye-candy, Tron: Legacy, the long-awaited follow-up to Disney’s cult sci-fi adventure Tron, will enthrall audiences with its parable about sentient technology. In 1989, tech visionary Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) mysteriously vanishes while developing a ‘digital frontier to reshape the human condition.’ Decades later, Kevin’s rebellious son Sam (Garrett Hedlund) is struggling with daddy issues when he is suddenly thrust into the chaotic virtual world of The Grid. Reprising his role from Tron, Bridges (The Big Lebowski) lends gravity to the proceedings, but also entertains with humorous hippie-isms. Meanwhile, Hedlund exhibits charisma as the brash, cock-sure Sam. Legacy also features Olivia Wilde as alluring, doe-eyed warrior Quorra; Michael Sheen as flamboyant night club owner Castor; and a cameo from electronica outfit Daft Punk, whose soundtrack pulses and swells with grand theatrics. The father-son story resonates, but Legacy’s draw card is its breathtaking visuals, which seamlessly integrates cutting-edge CGI and physical sets ˗ sequences of futuristic gladiatorial combat exhilarate, while the Kubrick-esque austerity of the architecture and the sleek, neon-saturated costumes both mesmerise. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Legacy is not just a unique 3D viewing experience…as Bridges proclaims, “It’s bio-digital jazz, man.” (JH) ****
