Thirty-Three

Audiences can expect a very unique theatre experience, as the upstairs at The Old Fitz Hotel is transformed into a performance space for Thirty-Three. The play follows Saskia’s 33rd birthday, where she hosts a dinner party of food, music and laughter for her closest friends. Drama and the unexpected, however, are what ensues.

Writer and director, Michael Booth, says the intimate confines of the Old Fitz worked perfectly for the story: “Audiences can really get amongst it. We feel that it’s better than if we were on an actual stage. It’s so real, you’ve got two rooms in this space – the dining room and the living room. The space itself is no smaller than a typical stage but the dynamic of where you can move makes it the best set you could ask for.”

Thirty-Three is an initiative of Red Line Productions, and also features live music and freeform dancing.

“We have a horse shoe setup, every seat is a great spot. It’s going to be a very boutique experience for audience members, there are 33 seats so it will feel really intimate,” added Booth. “To me theatre should be more than just a divide of audience and stage. Here, the drama is happening in the air, it’s not something that you look at – it’s something that you feel. Doing it in this way highlights the possibility of having palpable tension.” (GF)
