THEATRE: THE MAN WHO PLANTED TREES

THEATRE: THE MAN WHO PLANTED TREES

The Man Who Planted Trees is a witty, timeless tale for children and adults alike. The production has it all – puppets, comedy and great story telling. It is an ecological fable, based on Jean Giono’s story of the same name, The Man Who Planted Trees. It follows the journey of a determined shepherd and his dog. The pair make it their life goal to reforest a desolate, barren valley and they do so, one tree at a time. Time passes and World Wars are fought, but the dream never dies. While puppetry and parables may seem an over-earnest combination – The Man Who Planted Trees is a genuinely delightful, funny and entertaining piece of theatre. The piece was adapted and performed by the talented Richard Medrington and Rick Conte and it’s at the Sydney Opera House all the way from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it won the Total Theatre Award (2008). This is a multisensory theatre experience that is not to be missed.
