THEATRE: SCENES FROM COMMUNAL LIVING

THEATRE: SCENES FROM COMMUNAL LIVING

It is a truth, universally acknowledged that when young Sydneysiders are faced with burgeoning rent prices, they are often forced to shack up with complete strangers. This can be a daunting prospect. Luckily, Scenes from Communal Living, an improvised stage comedy, reminds theatregoers that for better or worse, strange bedfellows make for riotous entertainment. With results both heart-warming and wicked, audience members are required to concoct a cast of eccentric flatmates, who are then brought to life by a troupe of young actors that are remarkably seasoned. Actor Steen Raskopoulus says that like most flat mates the colourful cast have different backgrounds. “But in some ways,” he adds, “we’re from the same mother. The audience will definitely see their experiences reflected on stage.” Created by Stewart McCure and directed by Marko Mustac, this sublime and ridiculous production stars Emily Beale, Rachel Corbett, Graham Hyland, Carlo Ritchie, Susie Youssef and Raskopoulus.
