THEATRE: COHABITATION BONDI

Throw romance into the heady mix of emotions and personalities that is share living and what you get is Cohabitation: Bondi, a romantic comedy about the pitfalls of love playing at the newly-renovated Bondi Pavilion theatre. “Cohabitation: Bondi is about falling in love with your flatmate,” says the play’s writer and director, and long-time Bondi resident, Jane Malone, “and what happens the morning after the night before.” Aspiring singer Kate (Malone) and frustrated neuroscientist Simon (Anthony Masterson) are old friends who have shared their Bondi flat without incident for six months – until an email arrives with the potential to not only fast track Simon’s career, but his relationship with Kate as well. Down the road, ambitious, love-hungry Gina (Christine Callinan) could not be more different from her shy and circumspect flatmate Fred (Dominic Witkop) – a conflict made more explosive by Gina’s love for local jock and Fred’s nemesis, Matt (Lloyd O’Donnell). Cohabitation: Bondi is also a production of Malone’s new theatre company, The After Party Project, which aims to increase opportunities for actors with disabilities, an aim that has benefited wheelchair-bound Masterson. “We all know the power of sport in transforming lives,” Malone says. “Why not extend that opportunity to the stage?”
