THE STORY OF FILM

Mark Cousins, the Irish director and narrator of The Story of Film, has embarked on a long and painstaking journey to document the progress of cinema and the result is breathtaking.  The story consists of five, three hour long segments that take the viewer from the silent era through to the digital age.

The documentary excels in rectifying the ‘racism of omission’ of movie history. It succeeds in placing cinema in a social context, explains the effects of technology on the medium and reinstates Asian, European, African and South American filmmaking in the narrative.

This is an amazing, incredible feast for the eyes and the mind, it includes over 1000 film clips and pertinent interviews with seminal filmmakers .The narration soothes and guides the viewer along the winding road of cinematic history and the presentation illustrates the important signposts.
