THE ROCKS WINDMILL

THE ROCKS WINDMILL

There was a sense of excitement as guests gathered at the opening of The Rocks Windmill. A plush affair with food, drinks and music, guests were mesmerised by the unique four-storey working windmill located in the centre of The Rocks. Reminiscent of windmills in the early days of colonisation, The Rocks Windmill will open a window into our past.

Brought to life by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Australia, The Rocks Windmill is an educational arts venue, which will stand for four weeks providing an insight into the history of the area. In and around the mill there are many workshops and activities that will delight people of all ages. Storytelling, live art, Shakespearean theatre and peddle-powered cinema with live music are just a few highlights that will transport back to an era long gone. Convict brick building and flour grinding in the mill should prove quite popular amongst the children.

The Rocks Windmill will enlighten Sydneysiders and especially tourists, as they share a slice of Australian history. (MM)
