THE LAND OF YES & THE LAND OF NO

THE LAND OF YES & THE LAND OF NO

“Pure, engaging and exhilarating,” is how dance director Amy Hollingsworth describes the internationally-acclaimed production by artistic director and choreographer, Rafael Bonachela. Holingsworth is also one of the founding members of the Bonachela Dance Company and performed in the original performance where she won the Critic’s Circle Award for Most Outstanding Female Performance. “I was ready to stop being a dancer,” she explains. “I’m enjoying having the space to step away and nurture and coach the dancers.” This abstract, intensely emotive and highly physical show is an exploration of the human psyche and the power of the imagination. It first premiered in 2009 in Germany and has since toured extensively across the UK and Europe with the next stop at the Brisbane Festival before opening in Sydney. “Some dance leaves audiences feeling alienated, but this is a very warm and welcoming piece to watch.” Bonachela is a self-proclaimed movement junkie who finds inspiration in the visual arts and popular culture and doesn’t use rigid narratives in his work. “It’s about our human reactions to our environment, and different scenarios such as being stuck in a bad relationship that’s going around in circles.” Hollingsworth continues. “It’s very touching, human and inviting.”
