The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre

The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre

Affectionately known as The Joan, this arts complex in the heart of Penrith was opened in 1990 with the grand dame herself, Joan Sutherland, performing in a gala opening concert accompanied by husband and conductor/pianist, Richard Bonynge.

Originally home to the Penrith Conservatorium of Music, the Richard Bonynge Concert Hall and the Allan Mullins Studio, the centre received an extensive upgrade in 2005, adding the Q Theatre, architectural improvements and state-of-the-art technology and facilities.

Concert Hall

The Joan hosts performances in all genres including pop artists, classical orchestras, dance, theatre, circus, presentations, and installations. It attracts artists from all over the globe and audiences from all over the city, but at its heart is the local community.

A range of community-focused activities and events are held at The Joan, including various workshops and classes, a fabulous arts education program, local celebrations and private functions.
