A new and welcome addition to Sydney’s film festival calendar is the Inner West Film Festival, screening from March 28 to April 2 across venues including the Marrickville Golf Club, Dendy Cinemas Newtown and Palace Norton Street.Greg Dolgopolov, co-founder/director of Inner West Film Festival says: “We’ve really got some crackers for your viewing pleasure!”

The Festival offers a host of intriguing independent Australian films such as the controversial, Shit, from co-directors Trudy Hellier and Susie Dee; the world premiere of The Red Shoes: Next Step, partly shot in Marrickville; and the illuminating documentary on the Sydney and Melbourne Filmmaker Co-ops, Senses Of Cinema, directed and produced by John Hughes and Tom Zubrycki.

Opening the Festival will be a free community screening of the entertaining Aussie movie, Sweet As, from co-writer/director Jub Clerc, screening outside at Hole 1 of The Marrickville Golf Club, on Friday 31 March, 6:00pm.

In addition to an eclectic line-up of Australian and international features, including Australian premieres, on March 29 production business Breathless Films will host a pitching competition at the Actor’s Centre in Leichhardt at 6pm. Producers Jessica Giacco and Kristina Ceyton from Causeway Films together with Breathless Films will act as the jury, listening to five minute pitches for upcoming projects, with the winner receiving mentorship from Breathless Films.

On Thursday, March 30, Inner West design company, Carnival Studio, will host the opening of their movie poster art exhibition at Gallery 371 in Marrickville. With work on some of the most important Australian film of the last decade and beyond, the exhibition will not only provide a further networking opportunity for local filmmakers, but also an opportunity to buy some of Carnival’s amazing work – from Mystery Road to The Red Shoes: Next Step.
