“The world is three parts bastard and I refuse to be trifled with.”

At the age of 20, Dorothy Levitt became the first woman to compete in a motor race. A woman without fortune or title, ‘Dottie’ liked to go fast, setting multiple world records. Not to mention she authored a book, and even gave driving lessons to Queen Alexandra and the Royal Princesses – Levitt was truly a woman ahead of her time.

Dubbed by the press as ‘The Fastest Girl on Earth’, Levitt emerged as a pioneer – not just for female motoring, but for female independence.

The Woman and the Car From Patrick White Award-nominated playwright, Mark Langham, is an historical comedy you won’t want to miss. Centring on female history, this play deals with themes of exclusion, silence, absence, and bias as the story of Dorothy Levitt is kept alive.
