THE CLIPBOARD SHOW

THE CLIPBOARD SHOW

Robin Gibson Gallery makes the deceptively simple claim that The Clipboard Show merely presents artworks no bigger than A4-sized paper, modestly displayed on 100 clipboards, for sale at minuscule prices.

The uniform presentation of matte brown clipboards nailed to the gallery walls adds an attitude and texture to the overall exhibition in the form of a dynamic, undulating grid of clashing themes, colours and materials.

Zoe Tweedale’s brightly coloured Polar Bear oil painting (pictured) hangs near Cash Brown’s subtle Muzzle 2, an ink and pencil drawing of a horse’s mouth on a brown paper lunch bag.

Andrew Hopkins’ slick, startling and sallow self-portraits in coloured texta juxtapose Erwin Fabian’s darkly evocative swirling black and red pen and ink works on paper.

The Clipboard Show is actually a delightful and accessible glut of affordable artworks – prices range from $95 to $950 – from over 30 esteemed and emerging contemporary Australian artists who have shown at the Robin Gibson Gallery over the last 30 years.

Until Dec 22, Robin Gibson Gallery, 278 Liverpool Street, Darlinghurst, 9331 6692, robingibson.net
