The Star opened its entertainment venue in 1997 with a gala concert featuring international guests stars Michael Crawford, Natalie Cole, Peter Paul and Mary, Elisa Chan, Kenny Gee, K.D.Lang, and Air Supply. In 2011, the venue officially became known as Sydney Lyric when it was acquired by Foundation Theatres.
A massive $18million renovation in 2018 saw state-of-the-art upgrades to the auditorium, foyers, bars, ticketing and merchandising facilities. The auditorium underwent one of the world’s most technically advanced innovations at the time, being fitted with the ability to change the seating configuration to accommodate audience capacities at 1350, 1500, 1750 and 2000 as required.
With its modifications being made in consultation with leading theatre owners around the world, Sydney Lyric has exceptional acoustic and production qualities and has become one the favoured performance spaces by industry and audiences.
