Sydney Film Festival 2024 submissions now open!

The Sydney Film Festival (SFF) which next year celebrates 71 years of presenting Australian audiences with cutting edge from around the globe, is the most prominent and longest running film festival in the world.

The SFF will be presented in various cinemas throughout Sydney from June 5 – 16 and submissions are now open. Filmmakers have the opportunity of not only having their films screened at the festival, but also of competing for a massive prize pool of $155,000 through various award categories.

There are awards for documentaries, short films, and feature films which are screening in competition.

Submissions will close on 1st March 2024 for Australian and International entries, the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films, and the Documentary Australia Award. Winners of both of these awards are Academy Award eligible which means up and coming talent both in front and behind the cameras have the opportunity to carve successful careers in the industry, as these awards heighten their profiles.

“Every edition of the Sydney Film Festival renews our commitment to cinema and its creators,” explained Festival Director Nashen Moodley. “This year we not only celebrate our long-standing legacy but also offer a substantial platform to upcoming and established filmmakers. The world of cinema is vast, and at the SFF we endeavour to capture its every nuance.”

The Festival’s Australian Short film competition will celebrate 55 years in 2024, making it the oldest short film competition in Australia.

The Sydney Film Prize has a cash prize of $60,000 and all feature length films selected for the festival are considered for inclusion in the official competition.
