Sydney Ferries To Add Walsh Bay To Iconic Harbour Route

Sydney Ferries will be adding a new stop to their iconic harbour route: Walsh Bay. The new stop, part of a $5 million upgrade to the eastern side of Pier 2 at Walsh Bay, is expected to be operational from late summer, with the F3 Parramatta River route as well as the F8 Cockatoo route being scheduled to stop there.

The new ferry stop will provide greater public transport accessibility to nine of Sydney’s premier arts companies, including the Sydney Theatre Company, Sydney Dance Company, Bangarra Dance Company, Australian Theatre for Young People, and the Australia Chamber Orchestra. 

“It’s time to match Sydney’s most iconic transport mode with the world’s most picturesque performing arts precinct,” said Minister for Transport and Minister for Arts, John Graham. “Riding the ferry to Manly and Taronga Zoo is a bucket list experience for tourists all around the world. Now they can add Walsh Bay to the list.  

“Sydney is very fortunate to have such a high concentration of Australia’s best performing arts companies all in one harbourside location. This will give them a much-needed boost as they operate in challenging economic conditions.”

The art precinct’s new stop comes after a parliamentary petition calling for the reintroduction of ferry services to Walsh Bay amassed over 1,000 signatures earlier this year.

“The Walsh Bay ferry stop will be the third ‘ghost’ ferry stop reactivated by the NSW Labor government, following the successful reopening of stops in Balmain and Pyrmont last year,” said Independent MP for Sydney, Alex Greenwich.

“This stop will allow residents, workers, tourists and performers to travel to and from Walsh Bay via our beautiful harbour, providing a much-needed public transport connection to this important arts and cultural precinct.

“Congratulations to the local community and arts companies who petitioned Parliament and advocated so successfully for this important investment in our global city.”
