Sydney concert guide: October’s underrated gems

As October fast approaches, Sydney is set to welcome some of the world’s biggest names in music, including Travis Scott, Olivia Rodrigo and K-Pop sensation Stray Kids. However, for those who prefer the intimate theatre over the stadiums and those who don’t feel like frantically waiting for tickets to go on sale, here are some great concerts to look forward to this October from artists both international and homegrown.

Brad Cox

The Jindabyne singer-songwriter has made a strong impression on Australia’s country music scene, having been nominated for an ARIA as well as winning the Golden Guitar for his discography that captures the essence of Australian country life alongside his down to Earth persona.

Brad Cox will be performing at the Enmore Theatre on October 18.

Passenger

The British-American singer-songwriter is most notable for writing Indie Folk rock anthems such as Let Her Go. He is on tour in Australia to promote the re-release of his most celebrated album All the Little Lights.

Passenger will be playing two shows at the Concert Hall in the Sydney Opera House on October 21 and 22.

Grinspoon

For over 20 years, Grinspoon have been one of the staple acts in Australia’s post-grunge and alternative rock scene. They have 13 ARIA nominations to their name alongside over half a million records sold, and they continue to be mainstays at Aussie music festivals year after year.

 

Grinspoon will be performing at Metro Theatre on October 22. They will be supported by Press Club.

Confidence Man

This electronic/dance band started by two siblings hails from Brisbane and have had an extreme rise in popularity in the past 2 years. They have made a name for themselves through their indie-inspired dance music attracting fans from all genres of music, and their electric stage presence is what has made them music festival staples in recent times.

Confidence Man will be performing at the Enmore Theatre on October 26. They will be supported by LOODS.

Birds of Tokyo

The Perth alternative 4-piece are best known for their unconventional means of creating music and performing. They utilize multiple methods of music making including pianos, synths and even having a string ensemble accompany them for their live performances. They have become best known for hits such as Lanterns, Good Lord, Plans and Unbreakable.

Birds of Tokyo will also be performing at Enmore Theatre on October 31. The supporting act will be singer-songwriter Sahara Beck.
