Sydney Comedy Festival Unveils Massive Program For Its 21st B’Day
Sydney is about to get a serious case of the giggles, with the 2026 Sydney Comedy Festival dropping its full program — and it’s shaping up to be the biggest, busiest, and funniest edition yet.
Running from 13 April to 17 May, this year’s festival will bring more than 400 shows to venues across the city, from Darling Harbour to Penrith, showcasing global comedy heavyweights, Australian favourites and a wave of emerging stand-ups ready to leave Sydney audiences in stitches.
Festival organisers say the 2026 program is the largest in the event’s history, with performances spanning theatres, pubs, bars and unexpected locations — including a few brand-new experiences thrown into the mix.
“With almost 400 shows over five massive weeks of comedy, we are pleased to welcome you to the biggest Sydney Comedy Festival program ever. Get ready to laugh, Sydney, we have many surprises in store for you!” said Sydney Comedy Festival General Manager James Declase.
Among the major international drawcards are Scottish comic Daniel Sloss and Irish stand-up Joanne McNally, alongside Australian favourites including Celia Pacquola, Luke Heggie, Josh Thomas and Jenny Tian. The program also features cult cabaret sensation Reuben Kaye performing at the Enmore Theatre, adding a dash of outrageous queer brilliance to the line-up.
Meanwhile, theatre lovers can catch the comedic stage adaptation of CLUEDO at the Theatre Royal from 11 April to 10 May, bringing the classic whodunnit board game to life.
Big names, big laughs and new events headline the 2026 program
One of the festival’s biggest international moments will see Hollywood comedian Tiffany Haddish performing two Australian-exclusive stand-up shows at the State Theatre on 25 April and the Enmore Theatre on 26 April.
Fans of Netflix hit Baby Reindeer will also get a rare chance to see its creator Richard Gadd live, with the writer and performer appearing in a one-night-only conversation at the Sydney Opera House on 11 May.
Returning favourites are also back on the schedule, including the outdoor family event Great Laugh in the Park at Tumbalong Park on 19 April. Hosted by beloved children’s entertainer Jimmy Rees, the day-long event will feature performances for all ages — including a special Bluey Live Interactive Experience starring everyone’s favourite Heeler sisters.
For adults chasing laughs in slightly less traditional venues, the festival is also launching several new experiences in 2026.
The brand-new Comedy Cruise will take audiences out onto Sydney Harbour for a floating night of stand-up, while the popular Comedy Crawl returns bigger than ever with six events across Sydney neighbourhoods including Manly, Rozelle, The Rocks and Oxford Street.
There’s also an enormous slate of individual stand-up shows and showcases spread across venues like the Comedy Store, Enmore Theatre, Factory Theatre and Bondi Pavilion. Highlights from the program include performances by Aunty Donna, Dave Hughes, Felicity Ward, Steph Tisdell, Marty Sheargold and Tape Face.
The festival culminates with the End of Festival Gala at the Enmore Theatre on 17 May — a fitting send-off after more than a month of punchlines, wild stories and the occasional beautifully terrible dad joke.
NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper said the festival’s 21st birthday year is set to deliver a major boost to Sydney’s cultural calendar.
“The Sydney Comedy Festival is celebrating its 21st birthday this year and is bringing big laughs to the party,” he said.
“It’s their biggest program yet with global comedy superstars, Australian legends and the best emerging standups, all showcasing why Sydney is the nation’s premier destination for world-class cultural experiences and hilariously fun times.”
The Sydney Comedy Festival 2026 is on from 13 April – 17 May.
