SWITCHED ON
Performance Space’s Switched On season, which is part of Sydney’s International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) 2013 program, is presenting four diverse projects that explore our physical and personal relationship to technology.
“We wanted to look at humankind’s relationship with technology,” says Performance Space Co-Director Bec Dean.
“We looked at how we engage with technology on an everyday and personal level through to the extraordinary with a strong focus on performance.”
The season includes works from Perth’s pvi collective who’ll be taking to the streets of Darlinghurst with their disruptive outdoor experience Deviator.
John A. Douglas’ Body Fluid II (Redux), is a performance and video installation that sees the artist perform a ten-hour movement score while undertaking peritoneal dialysis.
Choreographers Myriam Gourfink and acclaimed Polish-French composer Kasper Toeplitz will perform Breathing Monster, a synthesis of sound and physical movement by blending live music, motion-sensing technology and extreme physicality.
Forever Now, sees artists and curators compile a catalogue of our culture today, to be made into a gold record and shot into space next year, following in the footsteps of the Voyager Gold Records sent into space by NASA in 1977. (CN)
