STORYLINES FESTIVAL

STORYLINES FESTIVAL

StoryLines is a showcase, a smorgasbord of storytelling. It’s a multicultural, multi-arts festival providing a creative voice for the often unheard stories of Sydney’s minority cultures.

Suzanne Millar, associate artistic director says, “I don’t think I’m alone in my belief that the theatre we see on our stages could and should be a greater reflection of the diversity, colour and vibrancy that surrounds us. Theatre is a profoundly powerful medium. We as arts practitioners have an incredible opportunity to speak for others or to provide a stage from which these ‘others’ can speak.”

StoryLines features three plays by an award-winning playwright, art installations, dance, live music and a free public forum on July 22nd at NIDA.

The works give voice to Sydney’s African refugee, Islamic and Indigenous communities. It is a feast of performing and visual arts celebrating diversity, and promoting cultural unity – an invitation to rediscover themes of identity and belonging.
