Arguably, one of Sydney’s most opulent and impressive theatres, the State Theatre sits in the very heart of the CBD and hosts premium events including concerts, film festivals, comedy, stage shows and gala nights.

Officially opened on June 7, 1929, this heritage listed building combines several architectural influences including medieval Gothic,  Baroque, French Empire and elements of the Art Deco of the time. Designed by preeminent architect, Henry Eli White in consultation with American theatre architect, John Eberson.

Built when Hollywood was entering the height of its film-making and film was an immensely popular form of entertainment, the State Theatre was intended as a grand picture palace and did indeed, host many of the biggest movies.
