Neon Neon – Stainless Steel

Neon Neon – Stainless Steel

Stainless Steel – Neon Neon

By Chris Peken

Neon Neon’s world is one of hard walls, ninety degree corners, harsh (neon) lighting and (as the title would tell us) stainless steel. While the detached yet perversely infectious Dream Cars mentions Motor City (aka Detroit) this outfit are far more Ultravox then MC5. But wait, the motor madness doesn’t stop there – Stainless Steel is in fact a concept album based on the life of John DeLorean, the man who left General Motors to start his own hugley successful DeLorean Motor Company. A collaboration between producer Boom Bip and Super Furry Animals singer Gruff Rhys, Neon Neon is an electro pop kaleidescope through which DeLorean’s jet-setting world of fast cars, fast money and faster demise is displayed under the harsh Neon Neon lights. Even as those you remember the Human League’s Lebanon cringe, it’s hard to deny the top-tapping, pun-worthy qualities of Steel Your Girl or I Told Her on Alderaan.
