St Patrick’s Day celebrations
Get out your best green outfit and head into The Rocks this Sunday for a grand St Patrick’s Day Festival. It all begins at 11am with a magnificent parade through the CBD — the first time in 10 years this has happened.
It will be a colourful launch with beautiful, elaborate costumes and floats, children’s characters, pipe bands, stilt walkers, Irish dancers and loads of Irish spirit.
More than 1000 participants will march from Hunter St, down Pitt St towards First Fleet Park, where the parade will conclude and make way for the many other activities happening around the area.
At the Main Stage in First Fleet Park, crowds will be entertained by several bands and soloists playing the very best in Irish music, including: Blackwater, Maria Shankey, Red Head Celebration, John Costello, Irish Ex-Services Presentation and The Two Biddies.
Over in the Sessions area, you can hear Celtic Tones, Paddy’s Craic, and The Dossers.
Dancers from a number of schools, academies and groups from around the city will perform on the Dance Stage throughout the day. If you’re inspired you can head over to the Culture Tent and take a few lessons.
Also in the Culture Tent will be some quick lessons in the Irish Language and pop-up entertainment for the kids.
An Irish Market on the MCA lawn will be selling gifts, treats, and other paraphernalia with an Irish flavour. Speaking of flavours, expect lots of terrific food, bar, and delectables.
It will be a wonderful family day with celebrations running through until 6pm.
