St Bede’s Organ

St Bede’s Organ

Pyrmont’s historic St Bede’s church will welcome its newest member next month.

The recently-installed Moller pipe-organ was imported from the US last month and now stands in pride of place next to the choir.

Named after their Danish creator MP Møller, Moller pipe-organs are considered to be some of the best in the world.

St Bede’s Father Colin Fowler said the effort to transport the organ was well worth it.

“Our Moller organ has a beautiful voice, with just a slight American accent,” he said.

“The parish of St Bede has given it a very warm welcome and we are confident that it feels very much at home. The Sydney pipe-organ

community is quite enthusiastic about this first Moller on our shores.”

The organ will be blessed following a recital by Peter Kneeshaw, organist at St Mary’s Cathederal, on October 24.

Church member Robert Gavagna told City News the visiting organist would help to put the new acquisition through its paces.

“He’s a fantastic organist,” he said.

“Our regular organist is tremendous as well, we’re really looking forwards to seeing what they both do with it.”

Built in 1870 the historic church is a popular venue for weddings and it stands just opposite Sydney Casino.
