South Summit, up and coming indie-rockers from Australia, have exceeded expectations in the past year. Named as “indie role models for reconciliation”, and singled out as one of Triple J’s “ones to watch” in 2022, they had a successful year with appearances at Falls Festival in Perth, BIGSOUND, Springtime Festival, Day On The Lawn, Rolling Sets, and NYE On The Hill. The Perth-based band was also nominated for Triple J Unearthed’s “Artist of the Year” and had the fourth most played song on the station.

To cap off their formative years as a band, South Summit has recently released their second EP, “Creatures”. It features acclaimed singles “Promise Me,” “Tired of Waiting,” and “Runaway,” as well as three new tracks, “Yaama,” “Changes,” and “Yaluu.” The chilled-out indie styled EP slots effortlessly into the Australian music scene.

In collaboration with Dave Parkin who has worked with the likes of Spacey Jane and Tired Lion, the group took band-room jams and fleshed them out to broader pieces of work before working with Parkin to sculpt them into the final tracks.

“Changes” is the work of Forbes Street Studios producer Callum Howell. With the band in Sydney, they took the groovy and soulful track to him and allowed his expertise in arrangements and tonal choices to shine through.

Triple J unearthed described the band’s sound as “timeless psych influences with a dusty mysticism”, which will be appreciated by fans of Ocean Alley, Spacey Jane and Lime Cordiale.

“It’s still early days for South Summit but there’s so much promise of what’s to come with this band.”

South Summit’s hard work on the EP seems to be paying off in building a strong fanbase, with the band reaching over 1.2 million streams online, and selling out over 600 shows in their Perth hometown.

In addition to making music, South Summit is focused on spreading positivity through their work. They visited schools, prisons, and youth detention centres across Western Australia for NAIDOC week last year, providing inmates and attendees with an opportunity to engage with positive role models.

With the release of their EP “Creatures,” South Summit is ready to continue on their journey and make a name for themselves in the national music scene.
