SMASHED

SMASHED

The two-woman production Smashed, directed by Clare Watson and written by Lally Katz, is a play about youth, friendship and growing up.

The production stars Suzannah McDonald as the confident and funny, Hazel and Katherine Tonkin as the quiet and gentle Ruby. The pair explores their relationship through their teenage years.

An event happens that sparks action in the play that these two friends try and negotiate, says Tonkin. Theyre exploring fantasy worlds and different possibilities but underneath all of that theres a current, actually we cant change these events.

Its a sexy little play, its fun, its a comedy, its a tragedy, its everything you could think of, says McDonald.

The play mixes memory, imagination and dreamscapes. Its quite filmic in that sense, because youre asked to take huge imaginative leaps in time and place, says Tonkin.

And while its a play about young people, it’s not theatre for children.

It’s probably more interesting for adults because theyre reflecting on what they had in the past with their own relationships when they were young, says McDonald.
