SHOPPING CENTRES & GUTTERS

A Blacktown boy meets a Potts Point girl. They love each other, sure, but their different backgrounds are causing issues. With news of his Nonno dying, Joey must take Felicity out west to see his family, piercing the George Street Curtain and showing her a side of Sydney she has never seen. Will their differences prove too big to surmount? This fresh new script from Sydney playwright Valentino Musico tells the story of the East-West divide. You might have seen the story of East meets West before, but this one is different, says director Ira Seidenstein, whose credits include the Sydney Theatre Company’s A Night in the Woods. “It’s really looking at the second generation as simply Australians. That’s the beauty of it,” he explains. “The language is rich, the characters are vibrant and complex.” A talented cast is headed up by Aaron di Pietro and Stephanie Funnell, while set design is by sculptor Vince Vozzo, one of the featured artists at the Italian Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale.
