SHOOT THE PLAYER

SHOOT THE PLAYER

The darlings of indie music performing acoustic songs using iconic Sydney as a backdrop – this is Shoot the Player. In the tradition of Vincent Moon’s Takeaway Shows, Shoot the Player places its subjects in the unpredictability a public space and in a single-shot teases out an arrestingly different version their work. It’s affecting because away from the stage, in open and unusual places, there is a vulnerability and spontaneity to each performance not found at a club show or in a recorded version. Between jutting rocks at Tamarama, Beach House coo through a stripped down version of Used to Be. In the Illustrated Man tattoo parlour, Sarah Blasko sings Hold on My Heart. The footage is candid, and ripe with small, honest moments. This month CarriageWorks is host to the Shoot the Player installation. View any one of the 100+ Shoot The Player films as they play at random on the big screen in the Carriageworks foyer, or browse the films yourself on one of several media booths. On Jan 23rd from 11am, you can also catch the minds behind Shoot the Player, Amelia Tovey and Jonathan Wald, as they discuss their project and the broader world of one-take online cinema.

Until Jan 30, Carriageworks, 245 Wilson St Eveleigh, free, shoottheplayer.com
