Experience Shakespeare as you have never experienced Shakespeare – and probably any other theatre – before. Come You Spirits is an esoteric company that combines the magic and imagination of theatre with ancient healing techniques using sound. They perform in unique outdoor spaces at dawn and at dusk, with custom made speakers that deliver music and meditative sound that is transcendent.

During the Spring Equinox weekend, from September 23 to 25, Come You Spirits will be performing three Shakespeare works in the organic surrounds of The Haven, a natural, outdoor amphitheatre in Castlecrag on the lower North Shore.

In the crisp, fresh dewy air of dawn (6.30am) on Friday, then, again under a burnt, dusk sky on Sunday night 6.30pm they’ll present The Tempest.

On both Saturday and Sunday at 12.30pm, in the brightness of day, they’ll present Romeo & Juliet.

In the auspicious twilight of 6:30pm on Friday and Saturday night they will will present the dark tale of greed, ambition and murder, Macbeth.

Come You Spirits consists of Jo Bloom, Charles Mayer, Sontaan Hopson and Alec Ebert with composer Brandon Read. They unite ancient tradition and the basic human energies of the heart, the masculine and feminine, drive, truth, vision, their connection to the land and the pursuit of something greater. Working with Chi, the chakras and the energy of the space and land they create an experience to jolt us all out of a sleepy haze.

Cultures the world over have used the practice of sound healing for thousands of years. Come you Spirits takes the principles of sound healing and – working with the amazing international composer Brandon Read – creates a soundscape that takes the audience on a journey supported by music that matches the specific frequencies of each of the energy centres (chakras).

Large stones that hold the principles of sacred geometry are positioned at specific points, reflecting and resonating sound in the space. Says co-founder and performer Jo Bloom: “We’ve drawn on the practice used in ancient temples, where they used giant stones to ensure sound was not just heard but was felt throughout the body.”
