Sexy, heartbreaking new play — God’s Cowboy
By RAQUEL BLANKEVOORT
God’s Cowboy is an intriguing tale of love, queerness, and secrecy, where all the action happens behind the theatre curtain.
“The play doesn’t hold back,” says writer and theatre legend, Les Solomon. Solomon, along with a stable of young actors through his talent agency Lambert House Enterprises, has spent the past year workshopping and producing his new play.
“It’s been worked and re-worked by so many young performers that they all have their own voice in it somewhere. There is much that is funny and endearing, but it is also very provocative.”
Told as a narrative flashback, God’s Cowboy is the story of a brother and sister working on a production, and their interaction with an outrageously sexy co-star. His showy persona — which belies secrets, pain and personal experiences — and his unconventional idea of God, changes the lives of the siblings.
The play had a successful eight-minute-long premiere in Solomon’s famous benefit show, A World of Entertainment for the Actors Benevolent Fund of NSW. Solomon has had over thirty years experience within the Australian theatre industry; this will be the second personal production he has written and produced.
God’s Cowboy will debut at the New-York style jazz-themed bar, El Rocco room in King’s Cross.
Featuring Mia Barb-Willson, Angus Farrand (Boy Swallows Universe), Ethan Hall, Sam Zovic (Last King of the Cross), and musical direction by Sam Zovic.
